Training of the Horse
Alex‘s “tough love” approach has proved effective and lasting with horses exhibiting behavioral problems, such as:
- Running through the handler
- Not being willing to go forward while being led
- Refusing to go onto the wash rack
- Spooking, and/or jumping sideways
- Pawing the ground while tied
- Pulling back while tied
- Biting, kicking, striking, rearing or bucking
- Not easily loading into a trailer

A considerable amount of time is spent working on ground manners with
green (untrained) and the young, uneducated horses. Alex teaches the
horse to behave in a socially acceptable manner and learn the importance of:
- Standing quietly while tied for grooming
- Standing quietly while being mounted
- Walking quietly without dancing around, pushing or pulling the handler
- Yielding to light pressure from the handler
The uneducated horse is taught to ground drive (long line) to
instill the basic responses of yielding to the hand aids, and
to go forward before he actually experiences a rider on his back.
Working with the horse four days a week gets maximum results.
Horses are turned out to roll and play on their days off.
